Chikanobu Toyohara (1838 - 1912 ) A minor member of the Shogun’s government he studied under Toyohara Kunichika specialising in woodblock prints of women and children. One of his series of thirty-eight prints entitled Shin bijin or True Beauties printed in 1897 contains bust portraits of beauties with extremely vivid colours. He also produced illustrations for journals and newspapers depicting historical events taking place. |
